Support me on Patreon :"https://www.patreon.com/3dtoyshop"

I've given up 20% of my house hold income for the last 2.5 years to run 3dtoyshop on Fridays. If 1% of my followers supported me for £3 per month on patreon, then I could do this full time and make a massive difference to the world. If you can support my dreams I would be eternally greatful. Thankyou.

Etsy

3dtoyshop created an etsy page that started selling 3d printed toys. It turns out that etsy is really good! It handles orders, returns, generates shipping returns, and even automatically generates customs forms for shipping internationally! Have a nosy, these are my regular product, but the only one that seems to sell is the teddy shunt valve!

Becoming Accessible

In November, I took a request to make a toy for a child with hydrocephalus. And this is when the teddy shunt valve was born. This highlighted to me desperate need for someone to make the accessible toys which don’t exist. Since then, I’ve stopped making regular toys which means 99% of people are no longer interested. However, someone needs to make toys for the last 1%, so that’s what I decided to do! Its not about the money!

Teddy Shunt Valve

www.teddyshuntvalve.com

Hydrocephalus is a condition where fluid builds up in the brain. Without the shunt valve brain implant, this is fatal. These children have multiple disabilities which they cant explain, a brain implant which needs periodically replacing (I spoke with one guy who has had 47 brain surgeries so far). A lady in Scotland came to me and asked me to make a toy for her 3 year old who had a shunt valve, and the teddy shunt valve was born.  When I shared this story, I was inundated with messages, so decided I needed to do this one properly. I learnt about toy safety, paid a lab to safety test it, and refined the design until it was fully compliant with EU toy safety law. I’ve now got 5 plastics which are fully compliant with EN71-3 and I’ve sent these to children and childrens hospitals across the world. Over 300 teddy shunt valves made so far, and I’m making more as I type!

The LimbBo Foundation

The LimbBo foundation do something really special. They 3d print arms for limb challenged children. So I thought it was time someone did something really special for them. I found an amazing guy, Camille, who’s a really talented 3d modeller. I asked him to adapt the http://enablingthefuture.org/ prosthetic arm into a lego man version, and took the logo of the LimbBo foundation and literally made the logo in real life. I took some files shared online of a lego man, adapted them in CAD, designed some shoes and a tshirt, ordered some plastic and printed it. What do you think? I think I smashed it! I shipped it to the foundation free of charge and uploaded the files to thingiverse so anyone can make it free of charge.

My Generation Doll

I was asked to design a hearing aid for a young girl who wears a hearing aid, uses a stick and is using braille. I decided to go one better. I asked for photos of the doll with a ruler on the side. I used 3d modelling software to calibrate the model to the real physical size,

and desiged a completely bespoke hearing aid that was the perfect fit. I ordered a nylon rod from ebay, and designed a custom end to make a teddy bear white stick, and also made some 3d printed braille toys to help her learn.

Traceostomy Teddy

I was asked to make a teddy tracheostomy toy to help normalise a tracheostomy for a little boy who’s brother was about to come home from hospital with one fitted. What do you think of the teddy tracheostomy? Here it is, fitted to my test teddy. Poor little teddy. He’s got club feet and wearing the worlds only teddy boots and bar. He’s also got hydrocephalus and has a shunt valve. I really feel for this guy sometimes. He’s also got a cochlear implant, and has been shipped to Liverpool and back for making a video with the real Father Christmas!

THE BEGINNING

3dtoyshop started as a facebook page. There was no plan to make accessible toys, just to keep the 3d printing hobby running, and to carry on making things and hopefully make some money using 3d printers to make toys. However, this time it was not being shipped for free. 3dtoyshop would take requests to make bespoke items for Christmas presents.

Brain Jigsaw

I decided to make a brain jigsaw to help teach the regions of the brain. It didn’t exist, it needed to, so I made it happen!

The Back Story

When covid struck, I used my 3d printers to make PPE. This became an epic project which resulted in 12.5k items being shipped free of charge across the UK to help reduce the spread. On 04/10/2020 this project officially finished and 3dtoyshop was born to fill the void. The website has now been archived, but you can see it here.

Teddy Insulin Pump

I was asked to make a toy to help normalise insulin pumps to a child. So here it is, the teddy bear insulin pump.

Teddy Foot Splints

Some children have their legs permanently in splints, so the teddy foot splint was invented so they can have a teddy just like them.
